It is time to relax and explore the possibilities within a magazine!
Collage
Have you always wanted to create something and then didn’t know what to create?
Well, do not fear, collage is here!
Collage is simply pieces of paper, fabric or other material arranged into an artistic composition to create one final piece of art.
In my opinion, collage is one of the most creative and relaxing processes. Sifting through magazines, locating those eye-appealing images and fussy-cutting those words and letters that seem to lock in the message of the moment is therapeutic in itself! Once all those awesome choices are arranged in a beautiful design, confidence seems to increase in ones artistic journey.
I like to open class with this very project. Students always have fun scanning articles, pulling recipes and swapping magazines, while laughing and chatting. It’s a definite ice breaker as everyone begins to find their comfort zone at the art table!
So, grab a magazine, scissors, background paper, brush and glue. Get yourself in a comfy spot and start looking at and searching for those images that speak to you. Soon, a theme will emerge.
A simple file folder makes a great base to create a simple composition. I use this folder to hold my collage gatherings for my current working project.
Or . . .
create a message-packed space! The choice is all yours!! I turned the above file folder over and thought, wow, this is a large blank area. I need to fix that! Lol! So, I opened another file with magazine samplings and arranged them with 2021 happenings in mind. Since this was the bottom, I wanted to protect it, so I applied 2 coats of Mod Podge Dishwasher-Safe Gloss for extra protection.
Or think about . . .
rounding up some fabric, book pages, sheet music and coffee or tea dyed paper and sew away! This is not my best sewing performance, but I still like it! I haven’t figured out what I am going to use this for yet, but I am leaning towards a journal cover! We will see what happens in that department.

Remember, boundaries, limits or restrictions don’t exist here! You have the power to make a choice about each step. Don’t worry about whether it is right or not. Just create! This is never about the art itself. It is always about the process in which you engage in and work through!
Goodbless! Enjoy, and go create some epic awesomeness!!! Cheryl
